Case study
Service strikes, near zero
Automated reporting and coaching on CAT and Genny radar survey data for a major utilities contractor — many millions of scans turned into usable insight, and service strikes reduced to near zero over 12 months.

The challenge
Striking a buried service is one of the most serious risks in utility works — dangerous for the operative, disruptive for the customer and costly for the contractor. Every excavation is preceded by CAT and Genny scanning, and every scan generates data, but that data typically stays with the device. Scanning practice is invisible to the wider organisation, and the first sign of a problem is the strike itself.
Our approach
RGA integrated CAT and Genny radar scanning data into a Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse through automated file feeds, giving direct, near real-time visibility of operator performance. The platform digests many millions of rows into usable insight, feeding a Power Apps application used for coaching. Combined with weekly coaching calls, this enables proactive intervention and continuous improvement in how survey work is actually carried out.
Outcomes
- Service strikes reduced to near zero over 12 months
- Near real-time visibility of operator performance from automated data feeds
- Many millions of scan records digested into usable coaching insight
- Weekly coaching conversations backed by evidence, driving proactive intervention
- Improved operational efficiency and safety
