Street works, under control
A permit management application for a UK utilities contractor, covering the full street-works permit lifecycle under the New Roads and Street Works Act — from application through sign-on and works to reinstatement.
The challenge
Every job on the highway needs a permit from the relevant highway authority, with conditions, timing windows and reinstatement obligations attached. A contractor running many sites at once is tracking applications, modifications, sign-ons, extensions and registrations across multiple authorities, and every missed date carries a cost — overrun charges, penalty notices and strained authority relationships. Tracked manually, the picture goes stale quickly and problems surface late.
Our approach
We built a permit management application around the contractor’s own process: a live register of every permit with its status, dates and conditions, and a guided lifecycle that takes each one from application through coordinator review, sign-on and works completion to registration. Rules reflect how street works actually operate — permit-type restrictions, mandatory notes on modifications and refusals, and automatic red-amber-green assessment that flags permits in jeopardy while there is still time to act.
Each permit carries its evidence with it: photos, sketches, traffic management plans and documents captured against the relevant phase. Site reinstatements are recorded in the field with photographs, dimensions and location, with coordinates read automatically from the photo itself.
